Refreshments served

Timed to coincide with a national re-release and 70 year anniversary of the film, we invite you to see one of the greatest romances of all time. David Lean’s iconic 1945 film will be screened in the surroundings of the main atrium of The Quadrant MK, Network Rail’s Headquarters in Central Milton Keynes.

The film focuses on the quiet desperation involved in an illicit, extra-marital love affair between two married individuals over seven weekly meetings at a railway café. It is the ultimate in the restrained expression of love.  David Lean’s film must have summed up the tension many women felt as the war was ending and their lives would return to domesticity. It is a pre-sexual revolution, very British romance .

About Radio City Theatre & Briefs Encountered

The film screening will be preceded by comedy sketches from Radio City Theatre, a Brighton-based company who will perform live readings of Briefs Encountered . The company hark back to those halcyon days when wireless drama ruled the airwaves. They bring a cheeky, contemporary twist of sparkling comedy, a host of deftly realised characters plus a endless array of ingenious sound effects.
